Cancer Care / Oncology

Since 2013, I have been "ONCOLOGY TRAINED" by Oncology Spa Solutions: This is an advanced certification training program for licensed spa professionals that requires re-certification and testing every 2 years.  It specifically addresses how cancer and cancer treatments affect the person and what that means to the spa therapist who is providing services.  It helps the esthetician to understand cancer, medications, current treatments, side effects and contraindications.  As of May 1, 2020, I also attained the NCEA National Esthetician Certification. This is the highest voluntary credential in the United States for estheticians.

SKIN CONSULTATIONS DURING COVID:  I know those undergoing treatment still need help with their skin and the side effects being experienced from treatment.  Facials are currently permitted in PA, however, if you are uncomfortable or if your physician is not recommending your coming into the salon, I will be happy to provide a skin consult via Zoom or other virtual.  Please email me at and we can make arrangements to discuss your concerns.

Some exciting news! One of my goals since becoming oncology-trained was to help educate cancer patients on how to care for their skin while undergoing cancer treatments. Allegheny Health Network's Cancer Institute has started some wonderful new programs, including Caring For Your Skin and Nails. As an AHN Volunteer, I am honored to be the program lead for this program. Cancer treatments, chemotherapy, and radiation can cause changes in the skin, such as dryness, dehydration, redness, rashes, sensitivity, irritation, radiation dermatitis, and other side-effects. They can also cause changes in the nails.

During this one-hour class, I provide suggestions for effective ways to care for your skin and nails while undergoing treatment and thereafter. The class is free and open to ALL Pennsylvania cancer patients and survivors, whether or not you are a patient of Allegheny Health Network. No registration is necessary.

The 2021 Classes are set as follows:

June 16 & September 15 12:00-1 PM
April 21 and November 10, 6 to 7 PM

THE "MY OASIS" FACIAL SERVICE for the oncology client is dedicated to safely, compassionately and confidently caring for the client and the side effects that occur to the skin. Most of those undergoing radiation and chemotherapy will experience skin issues.  Some range from mildly irritating dryness and rashes to the more severe.  I will provide a customized service for you and we will discuss the side effects you are experiencing and what can be done to help lessen them. As appropriate for your individual needs, the Bel Mondo mask, Acupressure, Ayurvedic Kansa, reflexology, LED light therapy, and modified facial massage techniques may be incorporated into the facial. Along with a listening ear, you will experience much deserved relaxation so you leave feeling more rejuvenated and your spirit less stressed.           75 Minutes -  $89

Facial Treatment Form:  Kindly download, print and complete this form and bring it with you during your initial skin care service.  If you are unable to download this, please arrive 15 minutes early so that you may complete this form and bring a list of your current medications.  I am always happy to receive and encourage an email ahead of the facial advising the names of your chemo drugs and the anti-cancer therapy you are receiving. My email is:

WELLNESS SERVICE:  Tranquility Touch Therapy:  Depending upon your current stage of treatment and with your physician approval, you can help to boost that immune system and just "let it go" for 45 minutes. While you have your mask on (if preferred) and while I provide any needed modifications, I will take you to a state of deep relaxation in a calming room with soothing music and the reverb of a singing bowl, using forehead acupressure and rose quartz (to open the heart, balance the emotions and promote love) and work down your neck, shoulders, arms and hands with the Ayurvedic Kansa. Then we get to the fabulous finale foot massage. This Kansa works on subtle energy fields stimulating deep relaxation, detoxing the skin and promoting healing. Take this "me time" to relax, renew, and revitalize.

RADIATION TREATMENT:  With physician approval, I can help to prepare your skin in anticipation of radiation as well as during the process with an organic oil that research supports and is recognized by the cancer community to help maintain your skin health.  Your skin health is my concern!

CHEMOTHERAPY:  Anti-cancer therapies can affect all of the skin with overall dryness, localized rashes and other side effects.  My skin services and the organic/natural products I carry at the salon will help lessen these side effects to help you feel your best.

TOPICAL CHEMOTHERAPY TREATMENT:  This is an anti-cancer therapy cream or lotion that is applied directly to skin cancer or sometimes on a condition that potentially could develop into skin cancer.  With physician approval, I can assist you in hydrating and preparing your skin prior to this treatment.

SKIN CARE PRODUCTS AND MAKEUP:  I will share specialized knowledge about quality skin products and ingredients that are free from harmful chemicals, toxins and fragrance. Your skin challenges will be met with products from skin care lines whose roots are in oncology cosmeceuticals and support  the special skin changes, needs and compromised immune systems.  You can feel safe knowing that the products and ingredients used in my treatment room and recommended for home use have been chosen with the unique needs of the cancer patient in mind.

MINDFULNESS-BASED AESTHETICS TRAINING -  This program is based on the MBSR program that is currently used in hospitals and cancer centers all over the United States.  I am currently in training for this Program and will complete the remainder in September when I travel to the State of Washington for the retreat and to work with cancer patients in the Union, WA area.

NANCY'S LIST:  Nancy Novack, Ph.D. developed Nancy's List, a non-profit foundation that offers a national listing of providers who offer a variety of integrative therapies to compliment traditional cancer treatments.  Listed under each state, you will find listings for other oncology trained estheticians, massage therapists, integrative energy providers, acupuncturists, chiropractors, psychotherapists, nutritionists, and cancer fitness programs.  The list goes on.  I am very pleased to be included as an Oncology Trained Esthetician on Nancy's List.

Nancy's List provides a comprehensive list of financial resources that are available.   Beyond all of this, Nancy's List provides stories of hope and is a wealth of information for cancer patients and their caregivers.  Please check this resource at:   Nancy currently has a COVID listing for those services which are either free or low cost.
